It works by allowing water to flush through the compartments at timed intervals, delivering each product to the load automatically without manual pouring mid-cycle.

The GE Dispenser Box & Drawer can wear out over time due to detergent buildup, mold or residue clogging the compartments, cracked plastic from repeated use, or a broken drawer slide that prevents it from opening and closing properly. Hard water deposits and using too much detergent can accelerate blockages that stop the dispenser from releasing products into the wash correctly.

These symptoms may help you determine if your dispenser box or drawer needs to be replaced:

- Detergent or fabric softener remains in the drawer after the cycle ends

- Drawer will not open, close, or slide smoothly

- Visible cracks, breaks, or warping on the drawer or housing

- Detergent is released at the wrong time during the wash cycle

- Mold, residue, or buildup that cannot be cleaned out

- Water leaks from the dispenser area during the cycle

- Washer produces poor wash results due to additives not dispensing properly
