The Whirlpool Oven Igniter lights the gas in the oven burner. It heats up to ignite the gas and helps the oven reach and hold the set temperature. It also works with the gas safety valve by drawing the current needed to open the valve when the igniter is hot.
Failure can come from normal wear, cracks in the igniter, or damage from bumps during cleaning or service. Over time the igniter can weaken and still glow but not get hot enough to open the gas valve fast. Grease, food spills, and corrosion can also shorten its life.
If your oven is not heating as it should, these symptoms can point to a bad igniter:
- Oven will not heat and the burner never lights
- Igniter glows but the burner does not ignite
- Long delay before the burner lights
- Oven heats inconsistently or will not reach the set temperature
- Burner lights sometimes but fails on other tries

- Returns are accepted within 60 days if the part is unused, in original packaging, and over $15 in value.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
- Shipping is non-refundable.
- Items returned without approval won’t be accepted.
