Whirlpool Air Damper (WPW10594329)

The Whirlpool Air Damper controls how cold air moves from the freezer into the fresh food section. It opens and closes to keep the refrigerator section near the set temperature. It also helps balance airflow so items cool evenly across shelves.

Common failures come from a stuck damper door, a worn or stripped actuator, or ice buildup that blocks movement. Electrical issues in the damper motor or position sensor can also prevent it from opening or closing when commanded.

Look for these symptoms to help decide if the air damper is the cause:

• Refrigerator section is warm while the freezer stays cold
• Refrigerator section is too cold or food freezes
• Temperature swings in the refrigerator section
• Weak or no airflow felt at the refrigerator vent
• Clicking, ticking, or repeated cycling noises near the damper area
• Uneven cooling, with some shelves much warmer or colder than others
