Whirlpool Range Oven Temperature Sensor (12001656)

The Whirlpool Range Oven Temperature Sensor monitors the internal temperature of the oven cavity and sends readings to the control board so the oven can maintain the correct heat level during baking, broiling, or roasting. It works by changing its electrical resistance as the oven temperature rises or falls, allowing the control board to cycle the heating elements on and off and keep the oven at the temperature you set.

The Whirlpool Range Oven Temperature Sensor can fail over time due to heat stress, a broken or damaged sensor probe, or a faulty connection at the wiring harness. When the sensor sends incorrect readings, the control board can no longer regulate heat accurately, which leads to cooking problems and may trigger error codes on the display.

These symptoms may indicate your oven temperature sensor needs to be replaced:

- Oven runs too hot or too cold compared to the set temperature

- Food burns on the outside but is undercooked inside

- Oven takes much longer than normal to preheat

- Oven shuts off before reaching the set temperature
