The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker replaces the assembly responsible for producing and harvesting ice inside your refrigerator's freezer compartment. It works by filling a mold with water, freezing it, and then using a heating element and ejector arm to release finished ice cubes into the storage bin. The assembly includes the motor, mold, thermostat, and ejector components needed for the full ice-making cycle.
The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker can fail due to a worn-out motor, a faulty thermostat that can no longer sense when ice is ready, or a cracked mold that allows water to leak before freezing. Mineral buildup from hard water, repeated freeze-thaw stress, and age-related wear on the ejector arm are also common causes of ice maker failure.
