GE Refrigerator Ice Maker (IM6D)

The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained unit inside your refrigerator that automatically produces and harvests ice cubes for storage in the ice bin. It works by filling a mold with water, freezing it using the refrigerator's cooling system, and then using a heating element and ejector arm to release the finished cubes into the bin below.

The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker can fail due to a burned-out heating element, a faulty thermostat, a broken ejector arm, or wear on the internal motor over time. Water supply issues, ice jams, or extended use can also cause the module to stop cycling correctly, leaving you with no ice or only partial cubes.

Look for these symptoms to help determine if your ice maker needs to be replaced:

- Ice maker stops producing ice entirely

- Ice cubes come out smaller than normal or malformed

- Ice maker runs continuously without stopping or harvesting

- Loud clicking, grinding, or buzzing sounds during the ice-making cycle

- Ice cubes freeze together into a solid clump in the mold

- Water leaks into the ice bin or onto the freezer floor

- Ice maker arm does not move or fails to signal when bin is full
