Whirlpool Washer Shift Actuator (W10006355)

The shift actuator is a small motorized component that controls the transition between the wash and spin cycles in your top-load washing machine. It shifts the drive system between agitation mode and spin mode by engaging or disengaging the clutch, allowing the tub to move correctly for each part of the cycle.

Shift actuators commonly fail from normal wear on the internal motor or plastic gears, electrical faults, or damage caused by repeated overloading of the washer. Because the part cycles through a shift every single load, the motor and position sensor inside can wear out over time, leaving the washer unable to properly transition between wash and spin.

If you are seeing any of these symptoms, a faulty shift actuator may be the cause:

- Washer fills and agitates but will not spin or drain

- Washer stops mid-cycle and displays an error or fault code

- Loud clicking or grinding noise during cycle transitions

- Wash plate moves but the tub refuses to engage for spin
