The Whirlpool Dryer Latch keeps the dryer door closed during operation. It hooks into the door strike to hold the door shut so the dryer can start and continue running. It also helps prevent the door from opening due to vibration.
Failure can happen from normal wear, repeated door slams, or the latch bending out of shape. The plastic or metal catch can crack, the spring action can weaken, or the latch can loosen from the door. Misalignment between the door and strike can also stress the latch and lead to early failure.
These symptoms can help you decide if replacing the latch may fix the problem:
- The door will not stay closed unless you hold it shut.
- The dryer stops when the door shifts or during tumbling.
- The door closes but does not click or feel secure.
- The dryer will not start because the door will not latch.
- The latch is visibly cracked, bent, loose, or missing pieces.

- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
