The Whirlpool Ice Maker Assembly makes and harvests ice inside the freezer. It fills the ice mold with water, freezes it, then releases the cubes into the bin using its internal motor, heater, and sensing controls. Replace it when the ice maker no longer cycles as it should, even though the freezer is cold and the water supply is available.
Common failures include a worn drive motor, a failed mold heater, damaged mold coating, stuck or broken ejector components, or faulty internal sensors. Ice buildup, mineral deposits, and repeated jam events can also keep the mechanism from completing a cycle. Electrical issues in the assembly can stop filling, freezing, or harvesting.
These symptoms can help you decide if this assembly matches your problem:
- No ice production while the freezer still maintains proper freezing temperatures
- Ice maker does not cycle, stalls mid-cycle, or repeatedly clicks without completing harvest
- Cubes freeze in the mold and will not eject, or the ejector arm will not move
- Ice is produced slowly, in small batches, or with irregular cube size
- Ice maker overfills, leaks into the mold area, or creates clumped ice from incomplete harvest
- Ice cubes are misshapen or fused due to uneven release or warming in the mold

- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
