The Whirlpool Washer Rotor mounts to the drive system and uses magnets to work with the stator to spin the wash basket during the wash and spin cycles. It helps control basket speed and direction so the washer can agitate, ramp up to spin, and maintain steady spin speed.

Common causes of rotor failure include wear at the mounting points, damage from a loose or stripped rotor bolt, impact from foreign objects, corrosion, or magnet damage. A failing rotor can also be linked to water leaks or bearing problems that create excess drag and strain on the drive system.

Replace the rotor if you notice one or more of these symptoms:

Washer will not spin, or the basket stops before reaching full spin speed

Loud grinding, scraping, or knocking noises during spin

Intermittent spinning, surging, or uneven basket rotation

Burning smell or repeated drive/motor-related fault behavior after the unit tries to spin

Basket turns by hand with unusual resistance or catches at certain points
