The Whirlpool Ice Maker Assembly is the freezer-mounted module that cycles water into the mold, freezes it into cubes, then uses internal controls, a heater, and a motor-driven ejector to release the cubes into the bin. It also manages the harvest cycle timing and works with the refrigerator’s water inlet valve and shutoff arm or sensor to stop making ice when the bin is full.

Common failures include a worn or stalled ejector motor, a failed mold heater that prevents cube release, internal thermostat or control issues that stop the harvest cycle, and damage from freezing conditions caused by slow water fill or restricted supply.
