The Whirlpool Washer Drain Pump moves water out of the washer tub and through the drain hose during drain and spin portions of the cycle. It creates the flow needed for the washer to empty so the control can advance to the next step. If this pump cannot move water at the right rate, the washer may stop mid-cycle or leave water in the tub.

Common failures include a blocked impeller from coins, lint, or small items, or wear to the impeller and internal seals over time. A cracked housing or loose inlet/outlet connections can also lead to leaks.
