The capacitor-screw assembly provides the electrical boost the washer's motor needs to start and maintain its operating speed during each cycle. It stores and releases a charge that helps the motor overcome the initial resistance of starting under load, keeping cycles running smoothly from start to finish.

Capacitors can fail from age, heat exposure, electrical surges, or repeated hard starts that wear down the internal components over time.
