The Whirlpool Washer Rods support the washer tub and connect the suspension system to the cabinet. They help keep the tub centered, limit side-to-side movement, and reduce vibration during wash and spin.
These rods can fail from normal wear, repeated heavy or unbalanced loads, or corrosion. The internal damping can weaken. The rod ends or bushings can also loosen or wear down. When this happens, the tub can move too much and the washer may not stay stable during operation.
Look for these symptoms to help decide if replacing the washer rods will address the problem:
- Excessive shaking, walking, or banging during spin
- Tub sits off-center, leans, or looks lower on one side
- Loud thumping or knocking when the load shifts
- Frequent out-of-balance stops or inability to reach full spin speed
- Increased vibration even with small or evenly distributed loads
