The Whirlpool Refrigerator Bulb provides light inside the fresh food and freezer compartments when the door opens. It installs in the light socket behind the lens or cover and works with the door switch so the light turns on and off with normal use.
Common causes of failure include a worn filament from age and frequent on/off cycles. Power surges can shorten bulb life. A loose bulb in the socket, corrosion on the base, or a damaged light socket can also cause the light to stop working.
Use these symptoms to decide if this bulb is the likely fix:
- Interior light does not turn on when the door is opened
- Light is dim, flickers, or cuts out when the door moves
- Light works only after tapping the lens area or twisting the bulb
- One compartment is dark while others that use separate bulbs still light
- Bulb shows a darkened spot inside the glass or a broken filament
