The Whirlpool Evaporator Motor Harness connects the refrigerator’s wiring to the evaporator fan motor. It carries power and control signals so the fan can move air across the evaporator coil and circulate cold air through the freezer and fresh food sections. It also provides a secure connection at the fan area to reduce loose or intermittent contact.
Common causes of failure include corrosion at the connector, a loose plug, a broken locking tab, damaged insulation, or a pinched wire from ice buildup, panel removal, or vibration. Heat at a poor connection can discolor terminals and lead to intermittent fan operation. Moisture and frost in the evaporator compartment can also contribute to connector and wire damage over time.
Symptoms that can point to a problem with this harness include:
- Evaporator fan not running even though the refrigerator has power
- Intermittent fan operation that changes when the door is opened, the unit is moved, or wiring is touched
- Warm fresh food section or weak airflow while the freezer temperature seems inconsistent
- Unusual noises from the evaporator area as the fan starts and stops
- Burnt smell, melted connector, or visible discoloration at the fan wiring connection
- Frost buildup on the evaporator cover accompanied by poor air circulation
