The Whirlpool Lid Lock keeps the washer lid closed and signals the control that the lid is locked for the selected cycle. It helps prevent the washer from filling, agitating, or spinning with the lid open. This part typically includes the lock mechanism and the lid-closed/locked switch used by the washer to confirm safe operation.

Failures can happen from a worn or broken latch, a failed internal switch, heat or moisture damage, cracked plastic from repeated slamming, or loose or corroded electrical connections. A lock can also stop working if the actuator sticks or the switch no longer changes state when the lid closes.

Look for these symptoms to help decide if this lid lock matches your problem:

  • The washer will not start even though the lid is closed
  • The lid will not lock, or the lock never engages during the cycle
  • The lid stays locked after the cycle ends and will not unlock
  • The washer stops mid-cycle and will not resume
  • The washer will not spin or drain because the control does not detect a locked lid
  • A clicking sound repeats from the lid area without the lid locking
  • An error related to lid lock, lid switch, or lid not locking appears on the display
