The Whirlpool Electric Stove Knob lets you select a burner and set its heat level by turning the control shaft behind the panel. It provides the grip and pointer you use to choose settings like OFF, LOW, and HIGH, and it helps you make repeatable adjustments while cooking.
Knobs can fail from normal wear, heat exposure, and repeated twisting. The internal insert can round out or crack, so the knob no longer holds the shaft tightly. It can also split or deform from impact or cleaning chemicals, which can cause a loose fit or misalignment with the control markings.
