The Whirlpool Washer Door Lock secures the washer door during a cycle and confirms to the control that the door is closed and locked. It helps prevent the door from opening while the tub is filling, washing, or spinning. It also releases the door at the end of the cycle when the control sends the unlock signal.
Door locks can fail from normal wear, repeated slamming of the door, moisture intrusion, or a misaligned door strike that puts stress on the latch. Electrical issues such as a failed internal switch, a weak solenoid, or a damaged wiring connection can also stop the lock from sensing or changing states. In some cases, detergent residue and vibration contribute to sticking or inconsistent locking.
Look for these symptoms to help decide whether this door lock matches your failure:
- Door will not lock, so the washer will not start or will stop shortly after starting
- Door stays locked after the cycle ends and will not release
- Clicking or buzzing at the door area without locking or unlocking
