GE Microwave Hood Damper (WB06X10436)

The GE Microwave Hood Damper controls airflow through the exhaust system of your over-the-range microwave or Advantium oven. It opens automatically when the ventilation fan runs, allowing cooking smoke, steam, and odors to exhaust properly, then closes when the fan shuts off to prevent outside air, pests, and drafts from entering your home through the duct opening.

The GE Microwave Hood Damper can wear out over time from repeated opening and closing cycles, grease buildup, or warping caused by heat exposure. A damaged or stuck damper may stay closed and block airflow even when the fan is running, or stay open permanently and allow cold drafts and outside air to flow back into the kitchen.

These symptoms may indicate your hood damper needs to be replaced:

- Exhaust fan runs but smoke or steam does not clear from the kitchen

- Cold drafts coming from the microwave vent area when the fan is off

- Visible damage, warping, or cracking on the damper flap or housing

- Damper flap does not open or close when the fan is turned on or off

- Unusual noise from the vent area caused by a loose or rattling damper

- Cooking odors or outside air consistently entering through the vent
