The GE Range Gas Igniter is the component that lights the gas burner in your range's oven by heating up to a high temperature, which both opens the gas valve and ignites the gas to start the flame. It works by drawing electrical current through a glowbar element that glows red-hot, signaling the oven safety valve to release gas and allowing combustion to begin.

GE range gas igniters commonly fail after years of repeated heating and cooling cycles, which weaken the glowbar element over time until it can no longer reach the temperature needed to open the gas valve.
