GE Range Control Element (WB23M9)

The GE Range Control Element regulates the heat output of a surface burner by controlling the flow of electricity to the heating element on your electric range. It works by adjusting resistance in the circuit, allowing you to select low, medium, or high heat settings through the surface burner switch.

The GE Range Control Element can fail over time due to heat stress, electrical surges, or normal wear from repeated use across thousands of on-off cycles. When the element degrades, it loses its ability to properly regulate current, which can cause a burner to stop responding to heat setting changes or behave unpredictably.

Look for these symptoms to determine if the control element may need to be replaced:

- Burner stays on high heat regardless of the dial setting

- Burner does not heat up at all when turned on

- Burner only works at certain heat settings and not others

- Surface element cycles on and off too rapidly or too slowly

- Visible burn marks or damage on or near the control element

- Range trips the circuit breaker when a specific burner is used

- Burner heat feels inconsistent or hard to control during cooking
