The GE Electric Range Infinite Switch controls the power level sent to a surface burner on your electric range by cycling the heating element on and off at varying intervals. It connects your control knob to the burner circuit, allowing you to dial in any heat level from a low simmer to a full boil without fixed steps.
A GE electric range infinite switch can wear out over time from repeated use, heat exposure, or internal contact failure caused by arcing and oxidation. Physical damage from a knob being forced past its stop, or moisture that reaches the switch internals, can also cause it to fail and lose accurate heat control.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms on your electric range, the infinite switch may need to be replaced:
- Burner stays on high regardless of the knob position
- Burner will not turn on at all from one control knob
- Burner only works at one heat level and cannot be adjusted
- Control knob turns freely with no resistance or clicks
- Burner cycles on and off erratically or at the wrong intervals
- Visible burn marks, melting, or a burning smell near the control panel
- Knob feels loose, broken, or no longer engages the switch properly

- Returns are accepted within 60 days if the part is unused, in original packaging, and over $15 in value.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
- Shipping is non-refundable.
- Items returned without approval won’t be accepted.
