The GE Microwave Gas Sensor monitors the air inside the microwave or Advantium oven cavity to detect gases released during cooking, helping the appliance automatically adjust cook time and power levels for better results. It works by sensing humidity and volatile compounds produced by food as it heats, then sending signals to the control board to optimize the cooking cycle without manual input.

The GE Microwave Gas Sensor can fail over time due to contamination from grease or food splatter, exposure to high heat cycles, or normal degradation of the sensing element. A faulty sensor may cause the microwave to misjudge cooking progress, leaving food undercooked or overcooked even when using automatic settings.
