The GE Microwave Magnetron is the core component responsible for generating the microwave energy that heats and cooks your food. It works by converting electrical power into high-frequency microwave radiation, which is directed into the cooking cavity to excite water molecules in food and produce heat. Without a functioning magnetron, the microwave or Advantium oven cannot produce any heat at all.
A GE microwave magnetron can fail due to age, overheating, running the microwave empty, or damage from arcing inside the cavity. Power surges, worn internal components, or a failing high-voltage circuit can also put stress on the magnetron and lead to complete breakdown over time.
These symptoms may indicate your magnetron needs to be replaced:
- Microwave runs but food is not heating or is heating very unevenly
- Burning smell or smoke coming from the microwave during operation
- Loud buzzing, humming, or arcing sounds while the microwave is on
- Sparking or visible arcing inside the microwave cavity
- Microwave stops mid-cycle or shuts off due to overheating
- Display and turntable work normally but no heat is produced
- Microwave trips the circuit breaker or blows a fuse repeatedly

- Returns are accepted within 60 days if the part is unused, in original packaging, and over $15 in value.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
- Shipping is non-refundable.
- Items returned without approval won’t be accepted.
