The GE Microwave Magnetron is the core heating component in your GE microwave or Advantium oven, responsible for generating the microwave energy that heats and cooks your food. It converts high-voltage electrical power into electromagnetic waves that penetrate food and cause water molecules to vibrate, producing heat. Without a functioning magnetron, the microwave cannot heat at all.

The GE Microwave Magnetron can fail due to age, power surges, running the microwave empty, or prolonged heavy use that causes internal components to burn out or crack. A damaged magnetron may also result from arcing inside the cavity or a faulty high-voltage circuit that sends improper power levels to the component.

Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the magnetron needs to be replaced:

- Microwave runs but food is not heating or is heating very unevenly
