The GE Range Burner/Oven Igniter is the component responsible for lighting the gas burners and oven in your range by generating a spark or glowing hot enough to ignite the gas when a burner or oven cycle begins. It works by drawing electrical current to either spark or heat to ignition temperature, triggering the gas valve to open and allowing the flame to start. Without a functioning igniter, the burner or oven will not light reliably or at all.

The GE Range Burner/Oven Igniter can weaken or fail over time due to normal heat cycling, grease buildup, cracks in the igniter element, or electrical faults in the igniter circuit. A weakened igniter may still glow or click but no longer reach the threshold needed to open the gas valve, causing slow or failed ignition even when the part appears to be working.
