GE Surface Heating Element (WB30X20478)

The GE Surface Heating Element is the coil burner that sits on top of your electric range and generates the heat used to cook food on the stovetop. It works by passing electrical current through a resistive coil, which heats up quickly and transfers that heat directly to your cookware.

A GE surface heating element can fail from prolonged exposure to high temperatures, physical damage from heavy pots or spills, or internal breaks in the coil over time. Corrosion, burning, and repeated heating and cooling cycles can also weaken the element until it no longer heats properly or at all.

Look for these symptoms to help determine if your surface heating element needs to be replaced:

- Burner does not heat up when turned on

- Element heats unevenly or only on one side

- Visible cracks, burns, or blistering on the coil

- Burner glows brightly in one spot but not across the full coil

- Element sparks or pops during use

- Burner stays on one heat level and does not respond to the control knob

- Burn marks or scorch residue on or around the element
