The GE Surface Heating Element is the coil-style burner that sits on top of your electric range and generates the heat used to cook food on the stovetop. It works by converting electrical current into heat through a resistive coil, which transfers that heat directly to pots and pans placed on the burner.

A GE surface heating element can fail from repeated heating and cooling cycles that cause the coil to crack or burn out over time, exposure to spills that corrode the element, or simple wear from everyday use.
