GE Surface Heating Element (WB30X24401)

The GE Surface Heating Element is the coil-style burner that sits on top of your electric range and provides the heat needed to cook food on the stovetop. It works by drawing electrical current through a resistive coil, which heats up and transfers that heat directly to your cookware. This element plugs into a receptacle on the range surface, making it straightforward to replace when it stops working properly.

A GE surface heating element can fail from normal wear over time, exposure to spills and food debris, power surges, or physical damage like cracks or burns in the coil. Repeated heating and cooling cycles can eventually cause the internal wire to break, cutting off the flow of electricity and preventing the burner from reaching the right temperature.

Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the surface heating element needs to be replaced:

- Burner does not heat up at all when turned on

- Element heats unevenly or only gets warm in certain spots
