GE Upper Bake Element (WB44K5013)

The GE Upper Bake Element is the heating component mounted at the top of the oven cavity that provides heat for broiling and upper-heat baking functions in your electric range. It works by converting electrical current into radiant heat, which radiates downward to brown, broil, or finish the tops of foods during cooking.

The GE Upper Bake Element can fail from repeated heating and cooling cycles that cause the metal to crack or burn through over time, or from grease and food debris that builds up on the element and creates hot spots. Power surges, physical damage, or a single severe overheat event can also cause the element to fail suddenly and stop producing heat.

These symptoms can help you decide if the upper bake element is the source of your problem:
