GE Broil Element (WB44M5)

The GE Broil Element is the heating component mounted at the top of your electric oven or drop-in range that produces the intense, direct heat used for broiling food. When you select the broil setting, electricity passes through the element and causes it to glow red-hot, radiating heat downward onto the food below. This allows you to brown, sear, or crisp the top of dishes quickly and evenly.

A GE broil element can fail from repeated heating and cooling cycles that cause the metal to fatigue and crack over time. Physical damage from food spills, grease buildup, or accidental contact can also cause the element to burn out or short, leaving you without broil function when you need it.

Watch for these signs that your broil element may need to be replaced:

- Broiler produces no heat at all when selected

- Visible cracks, holes, or blistering on the surface of the element

- Element glows unevenly or only heats in certain sections

- You notice sparking or arcing inside the oven near the top element

- Food takes much longer to brown or broil than expected

- Circuit breaker trips when the broil setting is used

- Burn marks or discoloration on the element that do not wipe away
