The GE Dryer Thermostat monitors and regulates the temperature inside your electric dryer to keep heat within a safe and effective range during the drying cycle. It works by opening and closing an electrical circuit as the temperature rises and falls, signaling the heating element to turn on or off so clothes dry evenly without overheating.

A GE dryer thermostat can fail from age, repeated heat cycling, or a clogged exhaust vent that causes the dryer to run hotter than intended. Electrical faults or a failing heating element can also stress the thermostat beyond its rated limits, causing it to stick open, stick closed, or lose its ability to read temperature accurately.
