The GE Dryer Timer controls the length and sequence of each drying cycle by advancing through the programmed settings and signaling when the cycle is complete. It works by rotating through a series of electrical contacts that activate the heating element, motor, and other components at the right times to dry your laundry properly.

A GE dryer timer can fail from normal wear on its internal contacts and motor, power surges, or heat exposure over years of use. When the timer motor weakens or the contacts inside corrode or burn, the dryer may not advance through the cycle correctly, leaving clothes damp or running the dryer longer than it should.
