GE Dryer Gas Igniter (WE4M449)

The GE Dryer Gas Igniter is the component responsible for lighting the gas burner that heats the dryer drum. When the dryer calls for heat, the igniter glows hot enough to ignite the gas flowing through the burner assembly, producing the flame that warms the air circulating through your clothes. Without a functioning igniter, the burner cannot light and the dryer will run without producing any heat.

GE dryer gas igniters are made from a fragile ceramic and silicon carbide material that weakens over time with repeated heating and cooling cycles. The igniter can crack, burn out, or lose the ability to reach the temperature needed to ignite the gas, even if it appears intact to the naked eye. Age, power surges, and normal wear are the most common reasons this part fails.
