The GE Dryer Timer controls the length and sequence of each drying cycle by advancing through the programmed settings and sending signals to activate the heat, motor, and other components at the right times. It works by rotating through timed electrical contacts that switch the dryer's circuits on and off as the cycle progresses from start to finish.

A GE dryer timer can fail due to worn internal contacts, heat damage, moisture exposure, or simply wearing out after years of repeated use. When the contacts inside the timer burn or corrode, the timer may stop advancing, skip portions of the cycle, or fail to shut the dryer off at the end of the cycle.
