GE Dryer Timer (WE4M532)

The GE Dryer Timer controls the length of each drying cycle by advancing through the selected program and signaling when heat, motor, and other components should turn on or off. It works as a mechanical clock that steps through timed intervals, cutting power to the heating element and motor when the cycle is complete.

A GE dryer timer can fail from worn internal contacts, a burned-out motor inside the timer, or general wear after years of repeated cycles. Electrical surges or overheating inside the control panel can also damage the timer, causing it to stick, skip, or stop advancing through the cycle as it should.

Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the timer is the source of your dryer problem:

- Dryer runs continuously and does not shut off at the end of the cycle

- Dryer stops before the cycle is finished or shuts off too early

- Timer knob does not advance or gets stuck at a certain point in the cycle

- Dryer does not start when the timer is turned to a cycle setting

- Clothes come out damp because the dryer is not running long enough

- Timer clicks or makes noise but the dryer does not respond

- Cycle time is inconsistent or unpredictable from one load to the next
