The GE Washer Control Knob is the dial you turn to select wash cycles, water temperature, or load settings on your washing machine. It attaches to the control panel and connects to the underlying selector switch, translating your input into the correct cycle or setting for each load.
GE washer control knobs can crack, strip, or break from repeated use, forced turning, or being bumped during operation. The inner hub that grips the switch shaft is especially prone to wearing down over time, causing the knob to spin freely without engaging the switch beneath it.
Look for these symptoms to determine if your control knob needs to be replaced:
- Knob spins freely without clicking into or holding a setting
- Knob is cracked, chipped, or broken and difficult to grip
- Washer does not start because the cycle cannot be selected properly
- Knob feels loose or wobbles on the shaft
- Inner hub or post is visibly stripped or damaged
- Settings skip or are hard to land on when turning the knob
