The GE Washer Door Gasket forms a watertight seal between the door and the drum on front-load washing machines, keeping water contained inside the tub during every cycle. It is made of flexible rubber that compresses when the door closes, preventing leaks from reaching the floor and protecting the washer's internal components from water damage.
The GE washer door gasket can wear out over time due to repeated opening and closing, exposure to detergent residue, mold buildup, or small objects like coins and debris that cause tears or punctures in the rubber. Age and heat from wash cycles can also cause the material to stiffen, crack, or pull away from the door frame, breaking the seal.
Look for these symptoms to help determine if the door gasket needs to be replaced:
- Water pooling on the floor in front of the washer during or after a cycle
- Visible cracks, tears, or holes in the rubber seal around the door
- Mold or mildew growth on or inside the gasket that cannot be cleaned away
- Musty odors coming from the door seal area
- Door feels loose or does not create a firm seal when closed
- Detergent or fabric softener residue building up in the folds of the gasket
