The GE Washer Door Lock secures the washer door shut during the wash and spin cycles, preventing it from opening while the machine is running. It uses an electronic latch mechanism that signals the control board when the door is properly closed, allowing the cycle to begin and keeping the door sealed while water and motion are active inside the drum.

The GE Washer Door Lock can wear out over time from repeated use, electrical faults, or physical stress on the latch mechanism. Heat, moisture, and normal wear on the internal switch contacts can cause the lock to fail, leaving the washer unable to detect a closed door or unable to release the door after a cycle ends.
