The GE Washer Front Rod is a suspension component that helps support and stabilize the outer tub inside a washer/dryer combo unit. It connects the tub to the cabinet frame, absorbing movement and keeping the tub centered during wash and spin cycles so the machine runs smoothly and evenly.
GE washer front rods can wear out over time due to repeated stress from heavy loads, off-balance cycles, or simple age-related fatigue. When the rod weakens, stretches, or breaks, the tub loses proper support and begins to move excessively, which can cause the machine to shake, bang against the cabinet, or stop mid-cycle.
If you notice any of these symptoms, a worn or broken front rod may be the cause:
- Loud banging or thumping during the wash or spin cycle
- Washer/dryer combo vibrating or walking across the floor
- Tub striking the inside of the cabinet during operation
- Visible sagging or uneven positioning of the tub
- Machine stopping mid-cycle due to an out-of-balance error
- Excessive shaking that gets worse with larger or heavier loads
