The GE Washer Tub Bearing supports the outer tub and allows it to spin smoothly during wash and spin cycles. It sits at the center of the tub assembly and reduces friction between the rotating tub and the stationary outer housing, keeping the washer running quietly and efficiently.
GE washer tub bearings typically wear out over time due to constant exposure to water, detergent residue, and the stress of repeated high-speed spinning. A failed or failing bearing can cause the tub to wobble, create loud noise during operation, or put extra strain on other drive components if left unaddressed.
Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the tub bearing needs to be replaced:
- Loud rumbling, grinding, or roaring noise during the spin cycle
- Excessive vibration or shaking that is not caused by an unbalanced load
- Tub feels rough or resistant when turned by hand
- Water leaking from the bottom center of the washer
- Tub wobbles or shifts noticeably during operation
- Burning smell coming from the washer during a cycle
- Washer makes noise that gets louder as spin speed increases
