The GE Washer Agitator Base mounts at the bottom of the agitator and connects the agitator to the drive system so it can move back and forth during the wash cycle. It transfers turning force into agitation to circulate clothes through the water and detergent.
Failure can happen from normal wear, heavy loads, repeated overloading, or running the washer with unbalanced loads. The base can crack, strip at the drive connection, or loosen over time. This can reduce agitation or stop the agitator from moving even when the tub still fills, drains, and spins.
These symptoms can help you decide if this part is the cause:
- The agitator does not move, but the washer still fills and drains
- Weak or uneven agitation and clothes are not getting cleaned
- A grinding, clicking, or rattling sound during agitation
- The agitator wobbles, sits loose, or lifts more than normal
- Plastic shavings or small broken pieces found under or around the agitator
