The GE Washer Agitator & Bolt works inside the wash tub to move clothes through the water during the wash cycle, creating the back-and-forth motion that loosens and removes dirt from fabrics. The agitator connects to the drive shaft at the center of the tub and is secured in place by the bolt, which keeps the assembly firmly positioned so it can transfer the motor's movement without slipping or wobbling.
The GE Washer Agitator & Bolt can wear out over time from the constant mechanical stress of repeated wash cycles, especially in units handling heavy or unbalanced loads. The bolt may strip or loosen with age, and the agitator body itself can crack, break, or wear at the connection point where it meets the drive shaft, leading to reduced cleaning performance or complete loss of agitation.
Look for these symptoms to help determine if your agitator or bolt needs to be replaced:
- Clothes come out of the washer still dirty or poorly washed
- Agitator spins freely in one or both directions without resistance
- Loud clunking or banging noise during the wash cycle
- Agitator visibly wobbles, tilts, or moves side to side during use
- Agitator has cracked, broken fins, or visible physical damage
- Washer runs through the cycle but clothes are not being moved around

- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.

- Items returned without approval won’t be accepted.
