The Whirlpool Dryer Fuse is a safety device that opens the electrical circuit if the dryer overheats. When it opens, power to the heating circuit or the motor circuit is interrupted, depending on the dryer design. This helps stop heat buildup and can prevent the dryer from running under unsafe temperature conditions.
This fuse can open due to restricted airflow from a clogged lint screen, blocked vent, crushed duct, or a vent hood that will not open. It can also open if the blower wheel is loose, the dryer is overloaded, or a cycling thermostat or heating control allows temperatures to rise too high. Once the fuse opens, it does not reset.
Common signs that point to this fuse include:
- Dryer will not start or shows no response when you press Start
- Dryer runs but does not heat
- Heat shuts off and the dryer stops during a cycle
- Clothes take much longer to dry, followed by a sudden loss of heat

- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
