The Whirlpool Dryer Thermostat monitors the dryer’s internal temperature and cycles the heater on and off to help keep heat within a normal operating range. It works with the control circuit to prevent overheating and supports consistent drying performance.
This thermostat can fail from heat stress over time, electrical contact wear, or damage from restricted airflow caused by lint buildup in the venting path. In some cases, repeated overheating events or a shorted heating circuit can weaken the thermostat and cause it to open too early, stick closed, or stop responding to temperature changes.
These symptoms can help you decide whether this thermostat matches the problem you are seeing:
- Dryer runs but does not heat, or heat is intermittent
- Clothes take longer than normal to dry
- Dryer overheats or shuts off during a cycle
