The Whirlpool Dryer Belt wraps around the dryer drum and works with the motor pulley and idler pulley to turn the drum at the correct speed. As the motor runs, the belt transfers power to keep the drum rotating so clothes tumble and dry evenly.
Dryer belts can fail from normal wear, heat exposure, and repeated flexing around pulleys. Over time the belt may stretch, glaze, crack, or fray. A seized drum roller, worn idler pulley, or a jammed drum can add extra load that makes the belt slip or break.
These symptoms can help you decide if a failed or slipping dryer belt is causing your problem:
- Dryer runs but the drum does not turn
- Clothes do not tumble and drying is uneven or slow
- Burning rubber smell during operation
- Thumping, squealing, or slapping sounds from the cabinet as the drum tries to start
- Drum turns by hand with little resistance, or feels loose compared to normal

- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
