The Whirlpool Drain Motor pumps used water out of the appliance during drain and spin portions of a cycle. It drives an impeller that moves water from the tub through the drain hose so the machine can rinse and spin without holding water.

Common failures come from worn motor bearings, a failing start winding, water intrusion, or debris that jams the impeller. Over time, lint, coins, or small items can strain the motor and cause overheating. Electrical issues, like loose connections or a weak control signal, can also stop the motor from running.
