The Whirlpool Dryer Belt is a drive belt that connects the motor pulley to the drum. It transfers motor power so the drum can turn at the correct speed during a cycle. When the belt is intact and properly tensioned, the drum rotates smoothly and clothing tumbles evenly.
Belts can fail from normal wear, heat exposure, and repeated flexing around pulleys. The belt can stretch, glaze, crack, or break. A seized drum roller, worn idler pulley, or stiff drum support can also increase drag and overload the belt, which can cause early failure.
Use these symptoms to help decide if this belt matches your problem:
- The dryer runs but the drum does not turn.
- You hear the motor running, but there is no tumbling action.
- The drum turns by hand with little resistance, but will not rotate during a cycle.
- The cycle starts, then stops shortly after if the model has belt-break protection.
- You find a broken belt, loose belt, or belt fragments inside the cabinet.
