The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained unit inside your refrigerator that automatically produces and harvests ice cubes for the storage bin. It works by filling a mold tray with water, freezing it using the refrigerator's cooling system, and then using a motor-driven ejector arm to release the ice into the bin below.
The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker can stop working due to a failed motor, a burned-out heating element that releases ice from the mold, a broken ejector arm, or a faulty thermostat that controls the freeze cycle. Normal wear over time, mineral buildup from hard water, or a freezer temperature that runs too warm can all contribute to ice maker failure.
These symptoms may indicate your ice maker needs to be replaced:
- Refrigerator stops making ice entirely
- Ice maker produces very little ice or output has slowed significantly
- Ice cubes are misshapen, hollow, or clumped together
- Ice maker fills with water but does not eject ice into the bin
- Loud clicking, grinding, or buzzing sounds coming from the ice maker
- Ice maker cycles continuously without stopping
- Visible cracks, broken parts, or frost buildup on the ice maker unit

- Returns are accepted within 60 days if the part is unused, in original packaging, and over $15 in value.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to eligible returns.
- Shipping is non-refundable.
- Items returned without approval won’t be accepted.
